Supreme Court Awaits AQI Trends to Decide on School Openings and GRAP-4 Relaxations in Delhi-NCR

Today again the Supreme Court heard the case regarding the pollution reaching the severe category in Delhi-NCR. The Supreme Court said that our suggestion is to see the AQI level in the next two days. Bring the data the day after tomorrow, then we will see what has been the trend in the last two days. After this, we will take a decision on the matter related to the opening of educational institutions.

Along with this, the Supreme Court asked the Air Quality Management Committee to decide soon whether the schools will open or not. The court will decide in the next hearing whether the provisions of GRAP-4 will be relaxed or not. The next hearing will be on Thursday, November 28.

Along with this, the Supreme Court asked the Delhi Police why check posts were set up only at 23 places. We will direct the CAQM Commission to prosecute the Delhi Police Commissioner under Section 14. The court said that we would direct the CAQM to issue show cause notices to all the agencies, take answers and prosecute them.

The court said that the Delhi government did not follow the GRAP-4 guidelines properly between November 18 and 23. Appropriate steps were not taken to stop trucks from coming to Delhi.

ASG Aishwarya Bhati said that yesterday we were at the stage of GRAP 2 according to AQI, but till today the AQI is around 324. Aishwarya Bhati told the court that the ban on physical classes for schools continues. All physical classes have been closed for Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar in NCR.
