Sukhbir Badal Takes Gatekeeper Duty at Golden Temple as Religious Punishment by Sri Akal Takht Sahib
Sri Akal Takht Sahib has announced religious punishment for former Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and his 16 former ministers. On Tuesday, the former Deputy CM and 16 former cabinet ministers reached the Golden Temple. Shiromani Akali Dal President and former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal is doing the duty of a gatekeeper at the gate of the Golden Temple in Amritsar with a plaque around his neck and a spear in his hand. This is one of the religious punishments Sri Akal Takht Sahib gave on Monday.
Along with him, former MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa reached the Golden Temple with a plaque around his neck and a spear in his hand after the religious punishment given by Sri Akal Takht Sahib yesterday. The punishment includes the instruction to work as a 'sevadaar' in the Golden Temple and clean utensils and shoes.
All these leaders will wash utensils in the Golden Temple. They will clean the bathrooms and work as gatekeepers. Sri Akal Takht Sahib has given this punishment to Sukhbir Badal and the leaders who were ministers in his government. During the Akali Dal government from 2007 to 2017, the holy Guru Granth Sahib was desecrated.
The punishment of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, whom Sri Akal Takht Sahib considers guilty of blasphemy, was pardoned. On 30 August this year, Sukhbir Badal and his party leaders accepted their mistake.
After this, Sri Akal Takht Sahib declared everyone as Tankhaiya. On Monday, Sri Akal Takht Sahib sentenced Sukhbir Badal, former minister Sukhdev Dhindsa, Daljit Cheema, Sucha Singh Langa, Hira Singh Gabria, Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Gulzar Singh Ranike to clean utensils and bathrooms in the Golden Temple.
Akali Dal leaders Bibi Jagir Kaur, Prem Singh Chandumajra, Surjit Singh Rakhra, Bikram Majithia, Mahesh Inder Grewal, Charanjit Atwal and Adesh Pratap Kairon will also have to clean utensils for two days. Also, they have been sentenced to clean the gurudwaras and listen to kirtan.
Sukhbir Badal has a fracture in his leg and Sukhdev Dhindsa is quite old. Therefore, both the leaders have been told to wear the dress of a sevadar and do the duty of a gatekeeper outside the Golden Temple for two days.
Apart from this, they will have to do similar duty for one hour each for two days at Takht Keshgarh Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib, Darbar Sahib Muktsar and Fatehgarh Sahib. During the punishment, Sukhbir Badal will have to wear a tankhaiya band around his neck. He will have to sit with a spear in his hand.
Apart from this, all the leaders will also have to wash utensils for one hour at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Akal Takht Sahib has also withdrawn the title of Fakhr-e-Qaum given to former Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal. The punishment has been announced by Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.
