Sexual Assault Case Filed Against Malayalam Actor Nivin Pauly and Others Amid Hema Committee Report Controversy

A sexual assault case has been registered against noted Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly. The complainant, a resident of Neriamangalam, has alleged that Pauly sexually assaulted her in Dubai in November 2023 under the guise of offering her a film role. The case has been officially registered in Kerala's Ernakulam where the actor and five others have been booked under non-bailable charges. Kerala Police on Tuesday, September 3, registered a case against actor Nivin Pauly, Malayalam filmmaker A.K. Sunil and four others on a complaint by a woman.
The woman has alleged that she was sexually assaulted. Oonnukal police in Ernakulam confirmed to TNM that they have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 376 (rape). The woman has also submitted her complaint to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that has been formed after the release of the Hema Committee report. The SIT later informed the Oonnukal police, after which the case was registered.
This case has come to light amid the controversy over the Hema Committee report. As the investigation into the rape case is progressing, the names of many actors are also coming to the fore. Apart from actor Nivin Pauly, the woman has also filed a complaint of sexual harassment against five other persons. After the Hema report, superstar Mohanlal resigned from the post of President of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). Many members of the association have also been accused of sexual harassment, such as Edavela Babu and actor-politician Mukesh. At the same time, cases have also been registered against popular actors like Jayasurya.
The Hema Committee report has created a stir in the Malayalam film industry for the past several days. The 'Hema Committee Report' has been prepared keeping in mind the safety of female artists. Recently, actress Minu Muneer filed a complaint on August 28 against several established actors of the Malayalam film industry, such as Mukesh, Jayasurya and Edavela Babu.
