Saras Mela: Bihar's Rural Women Entrepreneurs Shine with Handicrafts and Textiles
Patna: The Saras Mela, currently underway in Patna, is providing a unique platform for rural women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. The mela, which has been organized by the Bihar government, has brought together women from all over the state, as well as from 25 other states, to display their handicrafts, textiles, and other products.
The mela has been a huge success, with over 500 stalls and open areas showcasing a wide range of products. The total sales figure for the first five days of the mela has crossed Rs 4.95 crore, with Rs 81.81 lakh worth of products being sold on the fifth day alone.
One of the highlights of the mela is the participation of women who were previously unknown for their skills. These women, who have been trained and supported by the government, are now showcasing their products and earning a livelihood.
The mela is not just a platform for selling products, but also a celebration of Bihar's rich culture and heritage. The main cultural stage has been hosting performances by local artists, including folk songs, dances, and gazals.
In addition to the cultural performances, the mela is also hosting seminars and discussions on various topics, including social issues and women's empowerment. On Tuesday, a session was organized on the POCSO Act, 2012, which was attended by social workers and activists.
The Saras Mela is a testament to the government's efforts to promote rural entrepreneurship and women's empowerment. The mela will continue till December 25, and is expected to attract thousands of visitors from all over the state.
