Ruckus at RG Kar Medical College After Youth Dies, Family Alleges Medical Negligence

There has been a ruckus once again in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which came into the news after the rape murder of a trainee doctor. This time the doctors of the hospital have been accused of delaying the treatment of the youth. Bikram Bhattacharjee, a 28-year-old youth from Konnagar in Hooghly district, was crushed by a truck on Friday afternoon. After this, he died in RG Kar Medical College.

The ruckus started after the death of the youth. The deceased Bikram's mother Kabita alleges that the doctor was not present in the emergency, due to which the treatment was delayed and later he died. According to Kabita, a lot of time was wasted. His surgery should have been completed within that time. But there was no doctor available there. There was not even an emergency doctor.

Let us tell you that Bikram was brought to RG Kar Hospital at around 12.40 pm on Friday. However, RG Kar officials have denied the claims of the family. They claimed that Bikram was taken to trauma care immediately after being brought to RG Kar. He had severe injuries on two of his limbs. Apart from this, they found that he also had a severe injury to his head. He was taken for a CT scan. While the CT scan was being planned, Bikram was having trouble breathing and died.

On this incident, Abhishek Banerjee said, 'A young boy from Konnagar lost his life in a road accident today. He had to remain without any treatment for 3 hours and he kept bleeding during this time. This is the result of the protest by doctors in response to the RG Kar incident.'

He further said, 'The demands of the junior doctors are both reasonable and legitimate. I urge them to protest in a way that does not disrupt essential medical services. Death due to preventable negligence is akin to culpable homicide. If the protest has to continue, it should be done constructively, with empathy and humanity, ensuring that no one else's life is put at risk due to inaction or negligence.'
