RG Kar Hospital Issues Notices to 51 Doctors Amid Investigation into Trainee Doctor's Rape and Murder

Ever since the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, this hospital has been in the headlines. Doctors and youth from across the country are protesting on the streets to get justice for the victim's family and the CBI is investigating this case.

After the polygraph test of some doctors of the hospital, including Sanjay Roy, accused in the rape-murder case, now notices have been issued to 51 doctors there. On Saturday, the hospital issued notices to 51 doctors for promoting a culture of intimidation and endangering the democratic atmosphere of the institute and has asked them to appear before the inquiry committee on September 11.

The notice issued by the hospital authorities states that they will have to prove their innocence before the committee. As per the decision taken by the Special Council Committee of RG Kar Hospital, entry into the campus of the institute is prohibited for those 51 doctors until they are called by the inquiry committee.

The notice signed by the Principal of the hospital states that these doctors have also been banned from participating in the activities of the college. The list includes senior residents, house staff, interns and professors.

Junior doctors have been protesting since August 9 following the death of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty. The incident sparked outrage and protests across the country.

Protesting junior doctors in West Bengal said they will continue their 'work strike' demanding justice for the RG Kar hospital doctor who was raped and murdered. However, the Supreme Court has directed the doctors to return to work by 5 pm on Tuesday.
