Review meeting chaired by Dr. Prem Kumar: Important decision for the development of eco-tourism sites in Bihar

Under the leadership of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the state government has taken an important step towards environmental protection and promoting eco-tourism. In a review meeting held at Aranya Bhavan under the chairmanship of Dr. Prem Kumar, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, important decisions were taken regarding the development of iconic parks and eco-tourism sites in various districts of the state. These schemes will not only help in environmental protection but will also establish Bihar as a major tourist destination.

The Secretary, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bihar / Special Secretary, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bihar / Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Bihar / Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests -cum- Chief Wildlife Warden, Bihar / Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (CAMPA) -cum- Nodal Officer (Forest Protection), Bihar / Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Work Planning Training and Extension, Bihar / Chief Conservator of Forests -cum- State Nodal Officer, Environment, Climate Change and Wetlands, Bihar / Chief Conservator of Forests, Joint Forest Management, Patna and other senior officers attended the said meeting.

Review regarding eco-tourism and iconic parks

  • It was decided to prepare a list of iconic parks located in all the districts of the state and to discuss with the district administration regarding the development of at least one iconic park in all the districts at the largest site of that district.
  • It was decided to prepare a proposal for tree plantation and chain fencing in an area of four to five kilometers on Marine Drive (Ganga Path), Patna.
  • The Hon'ble Minister directed to take immediate action to allocate an amount of Rs. 20 crore for Karmachat Dam
  • The Hon'ble Minister directed to obtain the scheme under eco-tourism head and take action for its approval.
  • Efforts should be made to obtain funds from other external sources such as World Bank, ADB, JICA for the development of places of importance for eco-tourism.
  • Action should be taken to enlist consultants for the development of other/small places of importance for eco-tourism.

The Hon'ble Minister informed that Kandi-Nawada in Gaya, Tutla Bhawani in Rohtas, Karamchat, Guptadham, Rohtas Garh Fort, Shergarh Fort, Manjharkund, Karakatgarh in Bhabua, Karamchat Dam, Durgavati Waterfall, Banshi Khoh, Nagi-Nakati in Jamui, Garhi Dam, Simaltulla, Naroda Waterfall, Silaunja, Gehlor Valley, Tapovan, Mandar in Banka, Vanavar Cave in Jehanabad, Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary in Bhagalpur, Jagatpur Lake, Kadwa Diara, JP Park, Jethiyaan in Nalanda, Kanwar Lake in Begusarai, Dolphin Park in Munger, Kharagpur Lake will be further developed. With the initiative of Hon'ble Minister, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, Bihar, Iconic Parks will be established in all the districts of the state.
