Rape Threat Against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's Minor Daughter Sparks Widespread Outrage
Amid the nationwide uproar over the Kolkata rape and murder case in West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and many leaders of Trinamool Congress are on target. Recently, there was an uproar after an unknown person threatened to rape the 11-year-old daughter of TMC MP and party's national leader Abhishek Banerjee.
Now taking cognizance of this matter, the West Bengal Child Rights Body has directed the police to take immediate action. Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of the West Bengal Chief Minister, is considered the second big leader of the party. A video has surfaced on social media, in which the person can be heard announcing a reward of Rs 10 crore to the person who rapes the TMC MP's daughter.
The West Bengal Child Rights Protection Commission has now taken cognizance of this video and demanded strict action against the accused. The viral video is of the protest going on regarding the incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The panel has said that a person was heard threatening to rape Abhishek Banerjee's minor daughter in the gathering and publicly announcing a reward of Rs 10 crore to the person who does so.
The commission said in a statement, 'Such dirty intentions of the miscreant and his indecent remarks in public are tantamount to outraging the dignity of a minor girl and endangering her safety.'
The commission called upon the police to take action under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Juvenile Justice Act and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Commission for Protection of Child Rights said, 'When the whole state is mourning the tragic demise of the doctor in RG Kar, on the other hand, demanding another rape to settle accounts is a violation of the law and can send a dangerous message to the society if punitive measures are not taken. Such statements put not only the minor girl concerned but all minor girls in danger.' The commission has sought an action report from the police in this matter within two days.
