Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Revenue Patwari for Bribery in Gurdaspur
In the course of its ongoing fight against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has detained a revenue patwari named Navinderpal who was employed at the revenue halqa Dhapai, sub tehsil Qadian in the Gurdaspur district. The patwari was accused of soliciting and taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.
An official state VB spokesperson revealed this information here today, stating that the above-mentioned Patwari has been taken into custody on the basis of a complaint that Gurdaspur village resident Harjap Singh filed.
He also said that the complainant had contacted the VB and had recoded his testimony, claiming that the aforementioned Patwari had already accepted a bribe of Rs. 2,000/m and was now requesting Rs. 10,000 to get the land transferred into the complainant's wife's name.
The spokesperson stated that following an initial investigation into the allegation, the VB team set up a trap, and the culprit was apprehended in the open, taking Rs 10,000 from the complainant in front of two government witnesses.
He continued by saying that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act had been filed at the Amritsar range's VB police station against the accused in this regard. He indicated that more investigation was underway and that the accused would appear in the appropriate court tomorrow.
