Punjab Government's War on Corruption: PSPCL Official Suspended for Blackmailing and Bribe Demand

In line with the Punjab Government's zero-tolerance policy against corruption, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, an official of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) posted in Faridkot has been suspended with immediate effect for allegedly blackmailing and demanding a bribe from another PSPCL officer.

Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO revealed this in a press release issued on Wednesday, stating that the accused official, identified as Amit Setia, was posted as Accounts Officer (Field) in PSPCL, Faridkot. Setia was blackmailing and demanding a bribe from an Assistant Engineer/Sub-Divisional Officer of PSPCL.

The Minister said an investigation was conducted into the complaint, including a video clip sent by the Sub-Divisional Officer. The investigation revealed that Setia was blackmailing the SDO and demanding a bribe to keep him out of a case involving unauthorized use of electricity.

The Minister stated that the Accounts Officer concerned has been suspended for the irregularities and further action will be taken after a complete investigation. He reiterated that no government officer or official, regardless of their position, will be spared if found engaging in corrupt practices.
