Punjab Government Ramps Up Anti-Drug Efforts with New Anti-Narcotics Task Force
The Punjab government is in action mode regarding drugs. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reached Mohali today where he has formed the Anti Narcotics Task Force. During this, CM Mann has given a direct warning to the drug smugglers.
Mann said, “Our biggest war is going on against drugs. Drug smugglers will not be spared at any cost.” He said that till now many big fish related to drugs have been caught by the police. The property of many smugglers has been confiscated, so far property worth about Rs 400 crore has been confiscated.
CM Mann said that this sends a message that nothing will happen even with the money earned by doing wrong things. Along with this, he said that talks are also being held with the Union Home Ministry to make the law against drugs more stringent.
After inaugurating the new building of the Anti Narcotics Task Force in Mohali, CM Mann said that now the Special Task Force has been updated, it has been named New Anti Narcotics Task Force. It will replace the Special Task Force. The number of employees in this force has also been doubled.
Earlier it had 400 employees which has been increased to 800. Along with this, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also inaugurated the WhatsApp chatbot. He said that any person can complain about drug abuse on WhatsApp number 97791-00200, on which immediate action will be taken. The name of the informer will be kept secret. A proper control room has been set up for this. Those who give information will also be answered. Along with this, drug addicts will not be sent to jail but to the hospital. Drug dealers will not be spared.
CM Bhagwant Mann said, “Many times it also happens that people catch a drug dealer and take him to the police station, but before the people return, the smuggler comes back after getting bail. Therefore, we are also talking to the Union Home Ministry about the necessary changes in the law so that strict action should be taken against the person who is caught selling drugs and recovery is made from him.”
CM Maan also added that many cases were settled within 24 hours. He said that we do not give any relaxation in law and order and neither do we spare anyone. He also informed that the government has started a project of installing cameras in 6 border districts for Rs 40 crore because Punjab shares a 553 km border with Pakistan and there is constant movement from the Pakistan side.
