Prime Minister Housing Scheme Extended in Bihar Till December 2025

A major initiative has been taken towards providing permanent housing to the urban poor. In Bihar, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) has been extended till 31 December 2025. According to the data received from the Urban Development and Housing Department, a total of 2 lakh 64 thousand 604 houses have been approved in the state so far under the first phase of this scheme, out of which the construction of 1 lakh 56 thousand 550 houses has been completed. The construction work of the remaining houses is going on. A total amount of Rs 4 thousand 148 crore 16 lakh has been approved for this scheme, out of which Rs 3 thousand 111 crore is being borne by the Central Government and Rs 1 thousand 37 crore by the State Government.
Every urban poor will now get a permanent house
The objective of the PMAY (Urban) scheme is to provide permanent housing to such poor families living in urban areas who do not have any house of their own. Beneficiary Based Individual Housing (BLC) components are operated under the scheme. For construction of new houses, beneficiaries who have 30 square meters of private land are being provided financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh, which includes Rs 1.5 lakh from the Center and Rs 50 thousand from the State Government.
Work is going on fast in Bihar under PM Awas Yojana
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 has been started from 1 September 2024 for the next five years. A provision of Rs 23 hundred crore 5 thousand 509 lakh 96 thousand has been made for this scheme in the financial year 2025-26. For this, a total of 4 lakh 33 thousand 508 applications have been received through online from 261 municipal bodies so far. In this, physical and online verification of 2 lakh 2 thousand 379 beneficiaries has been done, in which the Government of India has approved on 20 February itself for the construction of houses for 1,00,124 beneficiaries for the first phase (financial year 2024-25). The process of its construction has started.
Objective of the scheme
The purpose of PMAY (Urban)- 2.0 is not only housing construction. Rather, it is also to provide affordable rental houses to urban families and to provide assistance to buy houses with the help of Primary Lending Institutions (PLI). In coordination with the states, union territories and implementing agencies, this scheme is proving to be an important initiative towards addressing the urban housing crisis across the country.
