PM Modi Leads Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign at NDMC's Navyug School, Marks 10 Years of Swachh Bharat Mission

On the occasion of 10th anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji visited the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC ) 's Navyug School, Pandara Park in New Delhi today morning and carried out Shramdhaan with school students under the 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' Campaign.

In the year 2014 on 2nd of October, ten years back Hon'ble Prime Minister had launched the Swachh Bharat Mission from NDMC municipal area at Valmiki Basti, Mandir Marg in New Delhi. After a decade, Shri Modi Ji revisited NDMC area for the Swachh Bharat Mission at Navyug School to continue the noble cause

NDMC was honoured and privileged by Hon’ble PM participating in Shramdaan at Navyug School, Pandara Park of NDMC and furthermore with his kind and humanitarian words of motivation encouraged the students to be the future torch bearers of Nation. The Swachhta anthem was sung by the students in the presence of Hon’ble PM after which he paid visit to an exhibition put up by school students on the theme of 3R ( Reduce , Reuse and Recycle ) that showcased creatives made by students.

Hon'ble Prime Minister interacted with students about benefits of Swachhta around us. He also inquired the students about Yoga and asked few students to perform some asanas.

As Swachh Bharat mission was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister at Valmiki Basti in New Delhi Municipal Council area, hence in the coming days NDMC has to play larger role with great responsibility to achieve the aim of the mission as being the heart of capital to keep its area clean and green in conformity with vision of Hon’ble PM.

On 2nd October, Swachhata Hi Seva campaign was culminated with Shramdan activities at various key locations. It was a proud moment for NDMC as the Hon’ble Prime Minister joined the students of Navyug School, Pandara Park, leading by example in contributing to the cleanliness drive.

Additionally, NDMC was honoured by the presence of Hon'ble MP, Smt. Bansuri Swaraj, who actively participated in the Shramdaan at Sarojini Nagar, while the DoPT Minister, Shri Jitender Singh, took part in the activities at Nehru Park, underscoring the government's commitment to this cause.

NDMC in its continuous pursuit of a cleaner and greener capital, had undertaken a series of transformative activities under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign that commenced on 17th September that culminated on 2nd of October with Gandhi Jayanti. The campaign's theme, “Sanskar Swachhata Swabhav Swachhata,” highlighted the integration of cleanliness into everyday behaviour and values.

The launch of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign was marked by a grand sanitation vehicle fleet rally. The rally, flagged off by Hon’ble MP- New Delhi, Smt. Bansuri Swaraj, featured sanitation vehicles, along with sanitation workers who showcased NDMC’s robust sanitation machinery and its commitment.

Over the last 15 days, NDMC organized over 170 events, involving more than 50,000 citizens and 30,000 students. This campaign has transformed 18 blackspots in New Delhi, turning neglected areas into vibrant community spaces. Through the power of creativity, spaces like Shivaji Stadium have been revitalized with colourful murals that instilled pride in the public areas.

NDMC also focused on empowering Safaimitras, with over 500 Safaimitras participating in Yoga Shivirs to enhance their physical and mental well-being. Additionally, NDMC's commitment to Safaimitra Suraksha saw the distribution of 1900 yoga mats, creating a lasting impact on their health along with organizing health camps for the annual health checkups of more than 1900 safaimitras.

NDMC also launched innovative initiatives such as the collection of 750 kg of plastic through 100 plus plastic collection drives, sanitation and plogging drives.

Students led the charge in these drives, their participation not only involved cleaning streets but also igniting awareness through activities like 'Waste to Art,' showcasing how creativity can transform trash into treasure.

Furthermore, NDMC's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign saw 10,000 plus trees planted, connecting the act of tree planting with the emotional bond we share with our mothers, fostering a deeper commitment to environmental conservation.

Public awareness has been another cornerstone of our success, with the Nukkad Natak performances and large-scale sanitation drives sparking change across 61 locations.

A cultural event was organized to honour the unsung heroes of the cleanliness drive—NDMC’s Safaimitras featuring performances by sanitation workers, students, and artists from the National School of Drama held at Navyug School, Sarojini Nagar, the event was attended by students, sanitation workers, their families, and other stakeholders who have played a vital role in NDMC's sustained success in maintaining hygiene standards across the city.

NDMC also hosted a grand waste to art exhibition and felicitation ceremony where students displayed innovative artworks created from recycled materials and waste.

The efforts were acknowledged by awarding and felicitation for best performing sanitation workers, sewer men, malis, best schools and overall best wards for their exemplary service over the years. The felicitation ceremony was a honour and recognition to their relentless efforts in ensuring the cleanliness of public spaces, making them the pillars of NDMC’s sanitation team.
