PM Modi Kickstarts India's Semiconductor Revolution: "Chips for Viksas Bharat" Mission Takes Off

In a ground-breaking virtual event titled 'India's Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat,' Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for three semiconductor projects, marking a significant step towards making India a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development.

The three semiconductor projects, worth approximately Rs 1.25 lakh crores, were inaugurated via video conferencing. The projects include a Semiconductor fabrication facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Morigaon, Assam, and another OSAT facility at Sanand, Gujarat.

Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) will spearhead the establishment of the Semiconductor fabrication facility at DSIR with a staggering investment of over Rs. 91,000 crores. This facility is set to become India's first commercial semiconductor fab, marking a significant milestone in the country's technological landscape.

Addressing the nation during the event, Prime Minister Modi emphasized his vision to position India as a global leader in semiconductor technology, fostering employment opportunities for the nation's youth. He congratulated the citizens on the historic occasion, stating that today's projects would play a pivotal role in establishing India as a semiconductor hub.

The Prime Minister noted the virtual presence of semiconductor industry players from Taiwan and expressed excitement for the collaborations. More than 60,000 colleges, universities, and educational institutes were connected to the event, making it a truly inclusive initiative involving the youth.

Describing the event as a manifestation of the dreams of the nation's youth, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of self-reliance and a strong global presence. He underscored the significance of electronic chips in the 21st century, stating that Made in India and Designed in India chips would play a crucial role in achieving self-reliance and modernization.

Drawing attention to the speed at which the government is working, Prime Minister Modi outlined the strides made in the semiconductor field. He recounted the announcement of the semiconductor mission two years ago, the signing of initial MoUs within a few months, and now the laying of foundation stones for three major projects. "India commits, India delivers, and democracy delivers," he affirmed.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the limited number of nations manufacturing semiconductors globally and stressed India's commitment to building a reliable supply chain, especially after disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted India's prowess in the tech space, nuclear, and digital power, envisioning a future where India becomes a global power in semiconductor manufacturing.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about India's journey into Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution, emphasizing the nation's determination to lead and contribute significantly to the semiconductor sector on a global scale.
