Parmesh Sivamani Appointed as the 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard

Parmesh Sivamani has been appointed as the new Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). He took charge of the post on Tuesday, 15 October. Parmesh Sivamani has become the 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard. The Ministry of Defence has officially announced his appointment.

According to the Ministry of Defense, Parmesh Sivamani has had an illustrious career spanning over three and a half decades, in which he has served in various important positions inshore and ship appointments. Sivamani, who specializes in navigation and direction, has taken over the sea command of all major ships of the ICG. His command also includes the Advanced Offshore Patrol Ship 'Samar' and the Offshore Patrol Ship Vishwast'.

He has also served in high positions such as Coast Guard Region (East), Coast Guard Region (West), and Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Sea Coast). The Ministry of Defense said that the new Director General has received education from the National Defense College, New Delhi and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

In September 2022, Parmesh Sivamani was promoted to the post of Additional Director General and was subsequently posted at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi. In August 2024, he was given the additional charge of Director General Coast Guard.

During his tenure, Sivamani led several important operations, including the seizure of narcotics and gold worth crores of rupees. Apart from this, he also played a role in important activities like rescuing sailors during severe cyclonic storms, joint exercises with foreign coast guards, anti-poaching operations, and humanitarian assistance during coastal security exercises.

Parmesh Sivamani has been awarded several prestigious medals for his outstanding services. He was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal in 2014 and the President's Tatrakshak Medal in 2019. Apart from this, he also received the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009.
