Organizational changes in Congress: New strategy in view of the upcoming elections

After facing continuous challenges, Congress is now trying to strengthen the party through organizational changes. Especially, organizational changes are being given priority in many states where upcoming assembly elections are to be held. There is a discussion in political circles that big changes can also be seen at the top level in such states.

Along with the appointment of new general secretaries in the party, state presidents of some states will also be appointed. This includes states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Himachal Pradesh etc. Presidents of some departments can also be changed. However, according to sources, the chances of changing the state presidents of the states in which the in-charges have been changed are less.

It is worth noting that assembly elections will be held in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam in the year 2026. Similarly, elections will be held in Himachal Pradesh in 2027.

According to a report, Congress is considering strengthening its organizational structure by returning to the basics and empowering district units with key decision-making responsibilities. Sources indicate that a meeting of the party's high command discussed the idea of reorganizing the party around District Congress Committees (DCCs), with office bearers being assigned to manage state units. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have emphasized focusing on district units, which includes strengthening their structure and promoting loyal workers.

Sources said that future decisions may revolve around giving greater importance to district Congress committees. Sources said the party may make district units important in the selection of candidates for elections. The current process involves starting recommendations from the DCCs and then going to state units and then the All India Congress Committee.

Some leaders at the Congress meeting suggested that the party was more organised at the district level in the 1960s, and this model could be revisited before changes are made to the current structure of the AICC. Besides, plans are also afoot to give district units a more active role in strategy and election campaigns as the party gives priority to working on their suggestions.

These organizational changes in Congress are aimed not only at strengthening the party at the grassroots level but also at adopting a more effective strategy in the upcoming elections. Empowering the district units and improving leadership will help the party understand local issues better and increase the enthusiasm of the workers. The party leadership believes that this move will not only help in improving electoral performance but will also establish Congress as a more organized and effective opposition.
