Nitish Kumar Conducts Aerial Survey of Flood-Affected Areas in Bihar, Directs Officials for Relief and Rescue Operations
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today took stock of the flood-affected areas of Koshi, Gandak and Ganga rivers by conducting an aerial survey and directed the officials to carry out relief and rescue work on a war footing in the flood-affected areas.
While giving instructions to the officials during the inspection, the Chief Minister said that the Water Resources Department should be fully alert and keep monitoring continuously. The District Magistrate should keep a constant watch on the water level in the flood-affected areas. He said that the engineers should be fully alert and senior officials should keep camping at the site. The Disaster Management Department should keep a constant monitoring of what else needs to be done so that people do not face any problems. The Chief Minister said that the disaster victims have the first right on the state treasury. In the flood-affected areas, make full arrangements for boat operation, polythene sheets, availability and distribution of relief material, medicines, animal feed, flood shelters, community kitchens, dry ration packets/food packets, district emergency operation centre etc. and provide all kinds of relief to the people. In those areas where there is difficulty in delivering relief material, food packets and relief material should be air-dropped to the affected families with the help of the Air Force.
The Chief Minister said that in the flood-affected areas where people have taken shelter on the embankment, make adequate arrangements for lighting, temporary toilets and other necessary facilities. Make proper arrangements for food in the community kitchen and take care of cleanliness. The people taking shelter on the embankment are from the nearby areas, making available boat facilities for their movement so that they do not face any kind of difficulty. He said that proper medical facilities should be made available in the relief camps. Along with animal feed, make full arrangements for the treatment of animals.
Water Resources Minister Mr. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Deepak Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary of Disaster Management Department Mr. Pratyaya Amrit were present during the inspection.
