National Commission for Women Stresses Importance of Pre-Marital Counselling

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has emphasized the need for pre-marital counselling to address the rising number of family disputes and violence.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar stated that 40-50% of complaints received by the commission are related to family disputes. She stressed that pre-marital counselling is essential to strengthen the institution of marriage and the traditional family system.
The NCW organized a national conference on pre-marital counselling and education, which was attended by Justice Victoria Gowri of the Madras High Court, lawyers, judges, NGOs, and counsellors.
The conference discussed topics such as emotional and financial preparation before marriage, communication skills, conflict resolution techniques, and legal rights.
Justice Gowri highlighted the importance of pre-marital counselling in sustaining the joint family system, an integral part of Indian culture. She emphasized that counselling is needed to deal with the complexities of married life and maintain a healthy relationship between couples.
