Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Claims New Parliament Building Built on Waqf Land, Opposes Proposed Waqf Bill

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has criticized the proposed Waqf Bill. In a statement, Ajmal has strongly opposed the Waqf Bill. He insisted that all secular political parties should boycott the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed to review the bill. He also said that the newly constructed Parliament Building of the country is also built on the land of the Waqf Board.

Ajmal said, "All secular parties are opposing the Waqf Bill. Two meetings have been held in two days. MPs of all secular parties have boycotted the JPC." He said, "JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal is a communal man, we will not get justice with him."

According to Badruddin Ajmal, "Five crore people have sent messages to the committee, urging to boycott the bill. This shows widespread discontent.'' He said, ''Our Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind was silent on this issue till now but now it seems that the government's intentions are bad. We still have the High Court and the Supreme Court. We will get justice from the court. We have formed a committee of Jamiat, it will follow up.'' Ajmal has also announced that ''Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind will challenge the bill and will survey the lands of the Waqf Board in Assam.''

He further made a claim which can be controversial. He said, ''The newly constructed Parliament House in India is built on Waqf land.'' This claim of Ajmal has further heated up the debate going on about the proposed law.

Discussions are going on with the Waqf Bill in the political and legal fields. The opposition of religious and secular groups is likely to intensify regarding this bill.
