Massive Cache of Arms Recovered in Manipur Amid Ongoing Violence

A huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered during a search operation in the Sekmaijin Area of Kakching district of Manipur. A statement said that during the search operation in the area, one Sten Machine Gun, two 9mm Pistols, two single barrel guns, ten Grenades, ammunition and war-like stores were recovered. Some gunmen had allegedly snatched three rifles and ammunition from policemen in the Leikinthabi area of West Imphal district.

This search operation was launched after the incident of snatching weapons from policemen. The police statement said that four policemen and one person had been arrested in connection with this incident. The court has sent them to ten days of police custody. It was told that the security forces also conducted search operations in the border and sensitive areas of the hill and valley districts of Manipur and recovered arms and ammunition from Wabagai Natekhong of Kakching.

After recovering the weapons, Assam Rifles gave information about the whole matter. It was written in the post of Assam Rifles. "Assam Rifles recover arms and ammunition in Manipur. Assam Rifles in collaboration with Indian Army, BSF and Manipur Police recovered one Sten machine gun, two 9 mm pistols, two single barrel guns, ten grenades, ammunition and war material in the Sekmaijin area of Kakching district of Manipur on 28 August 2024."

"Five guns, 10 grenades, one bulletproof jacket and one wireless set have been recovered during the search operation," the police statement said. More than 200 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in Manipur in the violence between the Meitei community living in the Imphal valley and the Kuki community living in the hilly area since May last year.
