Kolkata’s Protesting Students Reject Mamata Government's Proposal After Health Secretary, Whom They Demanded to be Removed, Initiates Talks
The doctors' strike on the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata is still going on. The deadline given by the Supreme Court to the junior doctors has expired at 5 pm. Now information is coming that the Bengal government has contacted the students by sending an email for talks and the Chief Minister has called a delegation of doctors to meet. However, the protesting students have rejected the proposal of the Mamata government.
Giving information about this step of the Mamata government, TMC leader and Minister of State for Health and Family, Chandrima Bhattacharya said that the Bengal government has contacted the protesting students by email and called a delegation of 10 doctors for talks. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is waiting in her room to meet the delegation of doctors, but there has been no response from the doctors in response to this mail. After not getting any response from the doctors, the CM left the Bengal Secretariat. The CM has once again requested the protesting doctors to return to work.
At the same time, while reacting to the Bengal government contacting for talks, he said that we have received a mail with great surprise. We had five demands, which included the demand for the removal of DHS and DME and the Health Secretary. But surprisingly, that Health Secretary has mailed us.
He said that if we want, we can come to Nabanna with 10 representatives. The email of the Health Secretary has come. We do not see it as a positive sign. We are always ready for talks, but the Health Secretary sending the mail is very insulting for us.
During the hearing in the Supreme Court on this matter on Monday, the CJI had said that the doctors should return to work and we will ensure all the facilities are given to them. If they do not do so, strict action will be taken against them. The Supreme Court ordered that the police will ensure that the necessary conditions are created to ensure the safety of all doctors, which includes separate duty rooms, toilet facilities and installation of CCTV cameras. Doctors should first return to work and they should return to work and complete their work.
A month after the Kolkata rape-murder case, the Supreme Court heard the case. The case was heard by a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra. The CBI had submitted its status report on the investigation to the bench.
