Protests are being held across the country over the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College. On Wednesday night, people in Kolkata switched off the lights of their homes from 9 pm to 10 pm and took out a candle march on the streets. Amidst all this, the victim's father claimed that he was forced to cremate his daughter's body. He said that I wanted to keep her body safe, but was forced to cremate it in a hurry. The family and relatives of the 31-year-old woman joined the protest that went on till late night outside the hospital on Wednesday.

The victim's parents also accused the police of paying money. Talking to journalists, the doctor's father said that when he returned home with the body, 300-400 policemen surrounded him. According to NDTV report, he said, 'We wanted to keep the body safe, but so much pressure was put on us. About 300-400 policemen surrounded us. When we returned home, we found that about 300 policemen were standing outside. They created such a situation that we were forced to cremate her.'

He claimed that the cremation was done in a hurry and the family was not asked for money for it. According to the report, some policemen allegedly asked him to sign a blank paper. However, he tore it.

He said that when a senior police officer tried to give him money, he replied in the same way. He wondered why the hospital authorities told him that she died due to suicide. He said that they had to wait for more than 3 hours to see the body. The deceased doctor's aunt said, 'When the daughter's body was lying in front of the parents at home, the police were offering money, is this the humanity of the police?'
