JP Ganga Path to Extend to Didarganj as CM Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Final Phase

The JP Ganga Path project built on the banks of the Ganges river in the capital is going to be extended to Didarganj. Right now this path is ready from Digha to Kangan Ghat. Now it is going to be extended to Didarganj, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar on Thursday (April 10). Built at a cost of about Rs 3831 crore, this project has been constructed by the Bihar State Path Nirman Nigam. The length of this very important road connecting two important ends of Patna city is 20.5 km.

Down ramp was approved during Pragati Yatra

During the 'Pragati Yatra' of February 2025, apart from the direct connectivity of JP Ganga Path from Mandiri Nala, approval was also given for the construction of a down ramp towards the river at Gaighat. The biggest feature of this road is its multi-dimensional connectivity. It is the best option for the most congested areas of Patna. It will take very little time to cover the distance from Digha to Didarganj, the two opposite ends of Patna. It connects all the important places like Atal Path, LCT Ghat, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, NIT, Gaighat, Kangan Ghat, Krishna Ghat and Patna Ghat in a straight line. This has made the traffic between the eastern and western parts of Patna very smooth.

It was named after JP

The foundation of this project was laid on 11 October 2013, the birth anniversary of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. From the same day it was named JP Ganga Path. In the last few years, its construction has been done in a phased manner. In the first phase, 7.5 km road from Digha to Gandhi Maidan was dedicated to the public on 24 June 2022. After this, in the second phase, 5.0 km from PMCH to Gaighat was inaugurated on 14 August 2023, 3.0 km from Gaighat to Kangan Ghat in the third phase on 10 July 2024 and in the fourth phase, Krishna Ghat link path was inaugurated on 3 October 2024.

Strong connectivity will be built between North and South Bihar

This road is named after JP. It connects to the bridge and Mahatma Gandhi bridge, which has made travelling between North and South Bihar even easier. After completion till Didarganj, this road will also be connected to the Kachidargah-Bidupur six lane bridge. This ultramodern road has become the lifeline of Patna today. Along with this, it is becoming a very important road connecting North Bihar with Patna and providing excellent connectivity with many major roads going towards South Bihar.

Expansion will be done from Bihta to Mokama

Approval has also been given for the expansion of the project. Work will soon start on the plan to widen the old NH till Koilwar bridge in the west and from Didarganj to Mokama via Fatuha, Bakhtiyarpur in the east. Not only this, a holistic garden will also be developed on the banks of Ganga between Digha and Gandhi Maidan.

Ganga Path will also be connected to Patna Ring Road

At present, this path is connecting to a total of five bridges on the river Ganga, out of which three bridges are under construction. It passes through Patna Ring Road. When extended to Koilwar, it will also connect to NH-922, NH-319 and Purvanchal Expressway.

Key Features:

• Easy connectivity between Atal Path, LCT Ghat, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, NIT, Krishna Ghat, Gai Ghat, Kangan Ghat and Patna Ghat

• Completion of the route from Digha to Kangan Ghat - a big relief in Patna's traffic problem.

• Reduction in time and distance in travelling to tourist, educational, medical, religious and social places

• Direct connection to Patna Ring Road, which has made this route more effective.

- People coming to PMCH for treatment from North Bihar, especially from Chhapra, Gopalganj, Siwan and other districts, will save a lot of time

- People of Patna get to see a very beautiful tourist view on the banks of Ganga in the evening. The view here in the evening is very special

- There is a plan to develop this area as the main scenic spot and park of the city under the Smart Patna scheme, which will be materialized soon.
