Jammu and Kashmir: Gunfights erupt between security forces and terrorists in Kishtwar and Udhampur forests

Jammu, Apr 9: Two encounters broke out between security forces and terrorists in the forests of Kishtwar and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. In both areas, the security forces had launched a search operation based on specific intelligence, during which a face-off with the terrorists took place.
According to official sources, the first encounter took place in the forests of the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district when the security forces got confirmed information about the presence of terrorists. After this, a joint team of army, police and other security agencies cordoned off the area and started a massive search operation (CASO).
Sources said that during the search, as soon as the security forces reached near the possible hideouts of the terrorists, the terrorists started firing. In retaliation, the security forces also took charge and opened fire. Bullets were fired from both sides and intermittent firing is currently going on. The area has been completely cordoned off and additional forces have been deployed to eliminate the possibility of any terrorist escaping.
The second encounter took place in Jopher of Ramnaga tehsil of Udhampur district. Here too, a joint team of police and army cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation after receiving information about the activities of terrorists.
During the search operation, the terrorists started firing on the security forces, after which the encounter started. According to sources, two to three terrorists are suspected to be hiding in the area, who have been surrounded from all sides. The situation at the encounter site remains tense and the security forces are carrying out the operation with full alertness.
Both encounters are still going on and the area is being monitored by security agencies with the help of drones and other technical means. Officials have appealed to the people to stay in their homes and not pay attention to rumors.
It has not been officially confirmed that any terrorist has been killed, but the operation of the security forces will continue until all the terrorists are neutralized.
