Himachal Pradesh Government Faces Financial Crisis: Ministers, CM to Forego Salaries for Two Months

Amid the financial crisis, the Himachal government has taken a big decision and decided not to pay salaries to all the ministers including CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for two months. Along with this, the Chief Parliamentary Secretary will also not take his salary for the next two months. The Chief Minister and the ministers have taken this decision due to the financial condition of the state.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that due to the discontinuation of GST compensation after June 2022, the state is facing a huge reduction in revenue. Due to this, the state is suffering a loss of Rs 2500-3000 crore annually.

The restoration of the old pension scheme has also reduced the borrowing capacity of the state by about Rs 2000 crore. Explaining these challenges, CM Sukhu said that it will not be easy to get out of the current economic crisis.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that he is not getting any assistance from the central government. He said that the revenue deficit grant in the year 2023-24 was Rs 8,058 crore, which has been reduced to Rs 6,258 crore this year. This means that there has been a reduction of Rs 1800 crore.

There is a possibility of a reduction of Rs 3,000 crore in this grant next year and due to this it will be reduced to Rs 3,257 crore. CM Sukhu also mentioned the assessment of needs after the disaster in Himachal. He said that for this the state needs Rs 9,042 crore but no funds have been received from the central government so far.
