Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Creates History, Wins Lieutenant Governor Trophy and Rs 5 Lakh Cash Prize

New Delhi: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has made history by winning the Lieutenant Governor Trophy, along with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. The university's team emerged victorious in the 'Smart Delhi Ideathon 2025', a competition organized to find innovative solutions to various urban challenges in Delhi.
The competition was held under the themes of traffic congestion, waste mismanagement, air pollution, water scarcity, and safety concerns for women. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Vinay Kumar Saxena, felicitated the winning team and emphasized the importance of smart governance.
"Smart governance is not just about policies and administration; it is about ideas that bring real change on the ground," Saxena said. "Winning a competition is commendable, but contributing to the progress of Delhi is the true achievement."
The winning team from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University's East Delhi Campus School of Automation and Robotics received the LG Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. The second and third prize-winning teams from Akhilesh Das Gupta College of Professional Studies and Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, respectively, received trophies and cash prizes of Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1 lakh.
The Smart Delhi Ideathon 2025 aimed to provide a platform for young minds to tackle pressing urban challenges with innovation, technology, and fresh perspectives. The competition received over 1008 entries, out of which 148 made it to the second round, and finally, 10 teams presented their ideas in the final round.
The university's Vice Chancellor, Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, expressed gratitude to the students of Delhi for participating in the competition and treating it as a social responsibility.
The event was attended by Delhi Chief Secretary Shri Dharmendra, Principal Secretary to LG Shri Ashish Kundra, Principal Secretary Higher Education Ms Nandini Paliwal, and all the vice chancellors of Delhi Government-run universities.
With this achievement, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has set a benchmark for innovation and excellence in Delhi.
