Government Tightens Security: CISF Takes Charge of Parliament Complex

In response to the recent security breach, Centre government has entrusted the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) with the comprehensive security of the Parliament building complex. The decision, announced by official sources on Thursday, follows a breach of the safety ring during the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack on December 13.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a central armed police force, already safeguards various central government ministry buildings in Delhi, as well as critical installations in the nuclear and aerospace domains, civil airports, and the Delhi Metro.*

The Union Home Ministry has directed a thorough survey of the Parliament building complex to facilitate the regular deployment of CISF security and fire wing in a comprehensive manner. Experts from the CISF's government building security unit, along with fire combat and response officers, will collaborate with officials from the existing Parliament security team to conduct the survey starting later this week.

Under this enhanced security arrangement, both the old and new Parliament complexes, along with their allied buildings, will be brought under the purview of CISF. The security cover will incorporate existing elements such as Parliament Security Service (PSS), Delhi Police, and the Parliament Duty Group (PDG) of the CRPF.

The move comes in the aftermath of a major security breach on December 13, where two individuals infiltrated the Lok Sabha chamber, releasing yellow smoke and shouting slogans during Zero Hour. Simultaneously, two others sprayed colored smoke and chanted slogans outside the Parliament premises.

A committee chaired by CRPF Director General Anish Dayal Singh is actively examining overall security issues concerning the Parliament complex. The committee is set to provide recommendations to the Union Home Ministry for further improvements
