Former RG Kar Hospital Principal Sandeep Ghosh Faces Allegations of Inappropriate Conduct in Hong Kong

In the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, is on the radar of the CBI. The central investigation agency is busy unraveling the layers of his dark deeds. Meanwhile, a report published in Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post in 2017 about Sandeep Ghosh is going viral. According to this report, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital Ghosh was accused of touching a male nurse inappropriately in Hong Kong.

Sandeep Ghosh was even dragged to court on the complaint of that male nurse. Another article in Asia Times also confirms this incident. This article also mentions the proceedings of Kowloon City Magistrate Court, where the court acquitted Sandeep Ghosh.

South China Morning Post published this report about Sandeep Ghosh on 29 May 2017. According to it, 'The male nurse had alleged that while he was changing clothes at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, orthopedic surgeon Sandeep Ghosh tried to pat his left butt and touch his private parts and asked - Do You Like This?' Sandeep Ghosh had gone to Hong Kong to participate in a clinical attachment program. However, he had called the allegations leveled against him by the male nurse baseless.

Sandeep Ghosh had told the Kowloon City Magistrate Court that this incident was a misunderstanding. He had said, 'I woke up that morning and found that my right shoulder was dislocated again - this problem happens to me again and again. So I asked for help from the people in my building. One of them was also a nurse, he could not understand me and left from there within 15 seconds. I was telling him how to fix a dislocated shoulder, during which my hand accidentally touched his hip. I told him - Do It Like This, which he understood as Do You Like This.' The court accepted Sandeep Ghosh's argument and released him.

The body of a female doctor was found in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024, who was raped and murdered. As per the order of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the investigation from the Kolkata Police on August 13. During the CBI investigation, it was found that Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had ordered the demolition of a toilet and toilet while approving construction work near the crime scene on August 10. The CBI suspects that Sandeep Ghosh gave these orders to destroy evidence.

As the investigation progressed, more issues came to light, including allegations of financial irregularities during Sandeep Ghosh's tenure. Dr Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court urging the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate the alleged financial irregularities during the tenure of Sandeep Ghosh. Dr Ali has suspected that the alleged corruption and the death of the lady doctor may be related to each other. He has said in his petition, the victim may have known about the corruption and may have threatened to expose it. For this reason, she was murdered.

The Calcutta High Court took cognizance of Dr. Akhtar Ali's petition and transferred the investigation of financial irregularities against Sandeep Ghosh from the state's Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI. After several days of interrogation, the CBI arrested Ghosh on September 2 for being involved in financial irregularities. Now the special CBI court has sent the former principal of RG Kar Medical College to judicial custody till September 23 in this case. The court also sent three others - Sandeep Ghosh's security guard Afsar Ali and contractors Biplab Sinha and Suman Hazra - to judicial custody till September 23. The CBI has said it can seek further custody if necessary.
