Fake voting will be stopped: Election Commission decides to link voter ID with Aadhaar

The Election Commission has made a big decision to curb fake voting and fake voter ID. The Commission has decided to link the voter ID card to the Aadhar card. Now the people of the country will have to link their voter ID to the Aadhar card.

According to the information, under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi held a meeting with the Union Home Secretary, Secretary of Legislative Department, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and CEO of UIDAI and technical experts of the Election Commission in the Election House today. It was decided in the meeting that the work of linking the voter ID card to the Aadhar card will be done as per the provisions of Article 326 of the Constitution.

According to the information, soon the experts of the Election Commission and UIDAI will start technical consultation on Aadhar-Voter Card linkage. After this the process of linking can be started.

The Election Commission said in a statement that according to Article 326 of the Constitution, the right to vote can be granted only to a citizen of India, but Aadhaar only establishes the identity of a person. Therefore, it was decided that linking of Elector's Photo Identity Card (EPIC) with Aadhaar will be done only under the provisions of Article 326 of the Constitution, Sections 23 (4), 23 (5) and 23 (6) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and in line with the Supreme Court judgment (of 2023). The Commission said that the law allows voluntary linking of voter lists with the Aadhaar database.
