Let us tell you that Delhi University had asked all the candidates contesting the student union elections to sign an affidavit. In this affidavit, they will take an oath not to use drums, loudspeakers, firecrackers or pamphlets in the campus after the results are announced. The affidavit also prohibits candidates from organizing road shows or rallies to celebrate their victory. According to the affidavit, non-compliance with these conditions may result in the candidate's victory being cancelled or he may be removed from the elected position. This step is in line with the existing election rules and has been taken amid a case filed in the Delhi High Court regarding damage to public property during the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections.
Candidates had time till Sunday to submit this affidavit in the office of the Chief Election Officer. Let us tell you that the DUSU results were originally to be announced on September 28, a day after the elections, but due to the court order, it was delayed by almost two months. The Delhi High Court had banned the declaration of results until the dirt spread on the campus during the election campaign was cleaned.
The university had submitted a status report to the court, but it was delayed as the cleaning process was not completed. Earlier the results were to be declared on November 21, but now the results will be released today.
