District-Level Camps to Raise Awareness on Welfare Schemes for SCs, BCs: Dr Baljit Kaur

Chandigarh:Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Dr Baljit Kaur on Monday announced that district-level camps will be organised to raise awareness about welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Backward Classes (BCs).

Dr Kaur made the announcement during a meeting with the SC/BC Teachers’ Union Punjab at the Civil Secretariat.

The union presented several demands, including implementation of reservations as per population, exclusion of open merit reserved category candidates from reservation points during departmental recruitments and promotions, relaxation in marks and application fees for reserved category candidates, reservations during admissions to meritorious schools, and payment of examination fees for SC and BC students by the Social Justice Department.

Dr Kaur assured the union that every legitimate demand would be fulfilled. She stated that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to the welfare of SCs, BCs, minorities, and economically weaker sections.

“The state government aims to improve the social and economic status of youth from SCs and BCs. Continuous efforts are being made by the department to achieve this goal,” Dr Kaur said.

Additional Chief Secretary D K Tiwari, Director Amrit Singh, Director-cum-Joint Secretary Raj Bahadur Singh, and Deputy Director Ravinderpal Singh were also present during the meeting.
