Delhi to Dehradun in 2.30 hours: Green Corridor Construction Nears Completion
Efforts to connect Delhi with major cities gain momentum as the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, spanning 210 kilometers, approaches its final stages of construction. The current 249-kilometer journey, taking approximately 6 hours, will be significantly reduced to just 2.30 hours upon the expressway's completion.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) aims to launch this corridor by the end of 2023, with recent updates confirming swift progress, as shared in NHAI's tweet on December 13.
This green corridor is poised to benefit Delhi, UP, and Uttarakhand, particularly impacting six major cities in UP—Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Yamunanagar, Baghpat, Meerut, and Baraut. Additionally, Uttarakhand's religious hub, Haridwar, stands to gain substantially from the enhanced connectivity.
NHAI estimates the expressway's construction at around Rs 13 thousand crores, projecting a daily passage of 20 to 30 thousand vehicles through its six lanes. The corridor, linking Delhi to Dehradun via Saharanpur, includes a crucial fourth phase, integrating Rajaji National Park and Dehradun.
This phase incorporates innovative features, such as a 20-kilometer elevated road and a 2-kilometer tunnel within the forest, along with meticulous rainwater harvesting. Approximately 400 recharge points have been strategically placed along the expressway, boasting Asia's largest wildlife corridor.
The completion of this corridor promises not only expedited travel for Delhi and UP residents to Mussoorie, Dehradun, and Haridwar but also catalyzes regional economic development. This logistical boon underscores the significance of the green corridor in fostering enhanced connectivity and accessibility.
