Delhi-NCR Faces Severe Air Pollution: GRAP-2 to Activated from Tuesday
With the onset of winter, air pollution in Delhi-NCR has started troubling. On Monday, the air in Delhi-NCR reached a very bad condition, after which it was decided to implement the second phase of the Graded Response Action Plan. GRAP-2 will be implemented from 8 am on Tuesday. The second phase of GRAP is implemented when the Air Quality Index is between 301 to 400. During this time, precautionary measures will be taken to reduce air pollution.
In view of the condition of air pollution in NCR and surrounding areas, the Air Quality Management Commission has issued instructions for the implementation of the revised program of GRAP.
A meeting of the Commission was held today regarding pollution in Delhi-NCR, in which the meteorological conditions of Delhi and the forecasts of the Air Quality Index were reviewed and this decision was taken. Delhi recorded an AQI of 300 this morning and around 310 at 4 pm.
IMD/IITM forecasts also indicate that the AQI in Delhi will remain in the very poor category (AQI 301-400) in the coming days due to unfavorable weather, climatic conditions and calm winds.
Many restrictions are imposed in the second phase of GRAP. Under this, the use of diesel generators is banned at places other than hospitals, rail and metro services. Roads are cleaned and water is sprinkled daily.
Also, only proper fuel is used in factories. Parking fees are increased to encourage people to use public transport to the maximum. Also, inspections are increased at construction sites.
