Delhi Metro's Phase-IV Expansion Set to Decongest City Roads: Two New Corridors Approved

New Delhi:In a significant move aimed at enhancing metro connectivity in the national capital and decongesting Delhi roads, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to two new corridors under Delhi Metro's Phase-IV project.

The approved corridors are as follows: a) Inderlok - Indraprastha: 12.377 km b) Lajpat Nagar - Saket G Block: 8.385 km

The total project cost for these two corridors is estimated to be Rs. 8,399 crore, with funding coming from the Government of India, Government of Delhi, and international funding agencies. Together, these corridors will span 20.762 km and play a crucial role in improving metro connectivity across the city.

The Inderlok - Indraprastha corridor will serve as an extension of the Green Line, providing interchange options with the Red, Yellow, Airport Line, Magenta, Violet, and Blue Lines. Meanwhile, the Lajpat Nagar - Saket G Block corridor, entirely elevated, will connect the Silver, Magenta, Pink, and Violet Lines.

The Inderlok - Indraprastha Line, with 11.349 km of underground lines and 1.028 km of elevated lines, will feature 10 stations. The Lajpat Nagar - Saket G Block corridor, entirely elevated, will include eight stations. Eight new interchange stations are planned at Inderlok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Dilli, and Saket G Block, enhancing connectivity among all operational lines in the Delhi Metro network.

The strategic expansion is expected to significantly benefit commuters from the Bahadurgarh region of Haryana, allowing them to travel seamlessly on the Green Line to reach Indraprastha and other central and east Delhi areas.

With pre-bid activities and tender document preparations already underway, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) aims to complete these new corridors by March 2026 in stages. Presently, the DMRC operates a network of 391 kilometers, consisting of 286 stations, making it one of the fastest-growing metro networks globally.

As Delhi Metro continues its rapid expansion, these new corridors mark a crucial step towards easing traffic congestion and promoting sustainable transportation options for the residents of the national capital.
