Delhi LG Administers Oath to New NDMC Leadership at Raj Niwas

Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Delhi - Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena administered the oath of faith and allegiance to the new team of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) led by Shri Keshav Chandra as Chairman and Shri Kuljeet Chahal as Vice - Chairperson with others nominated Members in a ceremony held at Raj Niwas, Delhi.

NDMC has been reconstituted by the Notifications issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, on 17 September and 5 November 2024, in which three elected representatives from NDMC area constituencies, four Official Members, and four Non-Official Members were nominated.

Accordingly, LG - Delhi, Shri Saxena also administered the oath to Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, MP-New Delhi, Shri Virendra Singh, MLA-Delhi Cantt., Shri Anil Valmiki, Smt. Sarita Tomar and Shri Dinesh Partap Singh, and Smt. Niharika Rai, Secretary (Finance), Government of NCT of Delhi a Member of NDMC today evening.

Among them, Shri Kuljeet Chahal has been nominated as the Vice Chairperson of NDMC as per the MHA notification.

The oath-taking ceremony was also attended by the Chief Minister, Delhi - Ms. Atishi Marlena, Member of Parliament - Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Shri Yogendra Chandolia and Chief Secretary, Delhi- Shri Dharmendra and other Senior Officers of Council & Delhi Government.

In the exercise of the power conferred by certain provisions of the NDMC Act, 1994, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India in every five years is issuing a notification for nominations of the Members of NDMC. As per the NDMC Act every new member before taking his seat, is required to take an oath of affirmation in the prescribed format.

The New Delhi Municipal Council Act, 1994 was amended in January 2012. Under the NDMC (Amendment) Act, 2011, a thirteen-member Council headed by a chairperson governs the New Delhi Municipal Council. Out of 12 members, 2 members are MLAs of New Delhi representing constituencies that comprise wholly or partly the New Delhi area and the Member of Parliament (MP), representing constituencies that comprise wholly or partly the New Delhi area, 05 are official members and 04 are non - official members nominated by the Central Government.
