CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury Admitted to AIIMS Due to Ill Health
CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has been admitted to AIIMS hospital in Delhi due to ill health. According to sources, the senior CPM leader was first admitted to the emergency department of Delhi AIIMS after suffering from high fever on Monday evening. After examining his physical condition, AIIMS doctors have shifted him to the ICU.
Delhi AIIMS has not given any information about the condition of 72-year-old Sitaram Yechury. However, a CPI(M) source said that Yechury has been admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia. Yechury is undergoing treatment and his condition is stable. Yechury also recently underwent cataract surgery.
Sitaram Yechury, who is also a member of the Politburo of CPI(M). Yechury is known for carrying forward the coalition building legacy of former general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet.
He collaborated with P Chidambaram in drafting the Common Minimum Programme for the United Front government in 1996. He also played a key role in coalition efforts during the formation of the UPA in 2004.
