CM Nitish Kumar Leads Bihar Cabinet in Approving New Social Media Policy for Government Outreach

Bihar government is going to bring a new rule for social media. Web media policy has been approved in the Bihar Cabinet meeting held on Thursday. Detailed information has not been given regarding this rule yet. In the cabinet meeting held at 11:30 am under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar, a proposal for Web Media Policy 2021 was brought by the Department of Information and Public Relations. It has got the approval of the cabinet. This proposal has been brought for social media and other online media. It has been said to make a new rule.

A total of 38 agendas have been approved in this cabinet led by CM Nitish Kumar. It has been told by the Department of Information and Public Relations that according to the Bihar Executive Rules, the Department of Information and Public Relations is the nodal department for publicity and public awareness through various media of classified advertisements, achievements and other materials of various departments of the state government. This work is being done in accordance with the provisions of Bihar Advertisement Rules, 2016 and Bihar Web Media Rules, 2021 (as amended from time to time).

Departmental sources have said that at present social media, web portals and other online media are developing as new and powerful means of publicity. There is a need to use the potential of these new mediums as much as possible in the interest of work. Through these, wide publicity of government policies and public welfare programs is possible in public interest. For this, Bihar Social Media and Other Online Media Rules, 2024 has been made. With the formation of this rule, effective publicity of the government on website, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, X and other platforms will become easier.

Earlier in the year 2001, the Bihar government had approved the formation of Web Media Policy-2021. In this, it was mentioned that the Information and Public Relations Department is the nodal department for publishing classified advertisements, achievements and other material of various departments of the Bihar government as advertisements and for centralized payment related work. During that time, the department has told that five groups have been formed in the web media advertisement policy. Group A includes news websites which have more than 50 lakh users per month. Group B includes those websites which have more than 20 lakh and up to 50 lakh users.
