CM Nitish Kumar inaugurates Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) to become the second largest hospital in the world

Patna, February 27, 2024: In a significant development for the healthcare sector in Bihar, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is set to become the second largest hospital in the world. The new buildings constructed under the PMCH redevelopment plan at a cost of Rs 903.57 crore were inaugurated by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday.

The CM Nitish Kumar also inaugurated 214 other projects and laid the foundation stone for 17 projects in the state. The event was held at PMCH and was presided over by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, MP Ravi Shankar Prasad and other dignitaries were also present.

Key highlights of the PMCH redevelopment plan:

Green Grid: CM Nitish Kua laid the foundation stone for a Green Grid at PMCH, which is being seen as a major step in the field of energy conservation. It will be built at a cost of around Rs 250 crore and will make PMCH self-sufficient in terms of electricity.

New facilities: The CM Nitish Kumar also inaugurated four new facilities at PMCH - OPD, multilevel car parking, blood bank and girls' hostel.

OPD services shifted to new building: OPD services of 20 departments of the hospital including Gastro Surgery, Gastro Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Neuro Medicine and Neuro Surgery have been shifted to the new building. However, ENT, Eye, Gynecology and Cancer departments are still in the old building.

Multilevel parking: The multilevel parking located near the Kali Mandir inside PMCH has also been made operational. The CM inaugurated it today. It can accommodate a total of 750 vehicles at a time. It may be noted that a total of 4 parkings are to be constructed in the PMCH campus. The work of constructing the other three parking spaces will be started in the second phase. Around 3000 vehicles will be able to be parked inside PMCH.

• Girls' hostel for MBBS students: Girls' hostels have also been constructed for MBBS students.

Blood bank facility will be available.

Blood bank facility has also started in the new building of PMCH. Now, under one roof, people suffering from Thalassemia, Haemophilia, HI and Aplastic anemia will get free blood facility. The blood bank here also has the facility of apheresis machine to give platelets and blood to dengue patients. The registration counter will also be in this building. Registration can be done on the ground floor. Medical stores and surgical stores are also being shifted to the central utility block

Work on the third phase to start soon:

The hospital superintendent said that the construction work of the second phase of the Patna Medical College and Hospital redevelopment project will start in March 2024. The construction work of the third phase will also be started soon so that the redevelopment project can be completed expeditiously.

Helipad on the roof of the hospital building:

A helipad is also being built on the roof of the hospital building for air ambulances. It is being developed as the largest hospital in the country. Under the redevelopment project, PMCH is being equipped with modern medical facilities. Therefore, a 5462-bed hospital is being built at a total cost of around Rs 5540 crore so that patients from all over the state do not face any problems.
