CM Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Mobile Veterinary Units and Call Center in Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar today inaugurated the Mobile Veterinary Unit and Call Center by unveiling the plaque at 01 Anne Marg, Patna. On this occasion, the Chief Minister flagged off 534 mobile veterinary units (vehicles). By clicking the mobile screen, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Bihar Animal Husbandry App and Kisan Animal Husbandry App. Principal Secretary of the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department Dr. N. Vijayalakshmi felicitated the Chief Minister by presenting him a plant. Earlier, the Chief Minister inspected the mobile veterinary units and sought information from the officials regarding the facilities provided in them and the services provided to the livestock farmers.


The objective of all these 534 mobile veterinary units (vehicles) and mobile veterinary call centers is to provide veterinary (doorstep veterinary service) facilities at the doorstep of livestock farmers. In view of the difficulties faced by livestock farmers in bringing their sick animals to the veterinary hospital, arrangements have been made to operate one mobile veterinary unit each for all the 534 blocks of the state.

The operation of mobile veterinary units will provide relief to animal keepers from the difficulties in bringing sick animals from remote areas to the veterinary hospital, the time and cost spent in bringing sick animals to the veterinary hospital will be saved. Along with this, quick and quality treatment of unhealthy animals will be possible. The health and productivity of animals can be improved. In case of the spread of infectious disease among animals, quick investigation and effective control of the disease can also be done and the departmental schemes will be publicized among the animal keepers.

The mobile veterinary unit is a well-equipped vehicle with a GPS facility in which the facility of identification of animal diseases, veterinary treatment and minor surgery, necessary equipment for audio-visual publicity along with necessary medicines for the treatment of animals, etc. along with artificial insemination will be available. One veterinary doctor, one veterinary assistant and one driver-cum-attendant have been arranged in the mobile veterinary unit. The mobile veterinary unit will be operated from 09.00 am to 05.00 pm on every working day.


For the convenience of livestock farmers, a call center has been set up at the state headquarters on the premises of Animal Health and Production Institute, Patna. 4 (four) experienced veterinarians and 12 (twelve) Call center executives have been arranged in the call center. Also, a mobile app has been developed. Livestock farmers can contact for veterinary services by downloading the said app on their mobile. Livestock farmers of the state can contact the call center for veterinary services by calling the toll-free number 1962 of the call center through the telephone or a mobile app during the period from 09.00 am to 05.00 pm every working day. After contact, veterinary facilities will be provided at the doorstep of livestock farmers through the mobile veterinary unit. There is also a provision of telemedicine in the call center. Medical advice can be obtained from the veterinarians working in the call center through audio or video calling as per the needs by the veterinarians working in the mobile veterinary unit. Apart from this, the mobile veterinary unit will visit 2 (two) villages every working day and will provide medical treatment to animals and publicize departmental schemes through camps.

On this occasion, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Ministry Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha, Animal and Fisheries Resources Minister Smt. Renu Devi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Shri Amritlal Meena, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. S. Siddharth, Joint Secretary of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Ministry, Government of India, Smt. Sarita Chauhan, Principal Secretary of Animal and Fisheries Resources Department Dr. N. Vijayalakshmi, Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Anupam Kumar, Special Officer to the Chief Minister Shri Gopal Singh, Director Animal Husbandry Shri Navdeep Shukla, Deputy Commissioner Animal Husbandry, Government of India Dr. Surendra Pal and other senior officers of Animal and Fisheries Resources Department were present.
