When we were MPs and ministers at the centre, we visited many places and saw the work of self-help groups. We saw that the number of self-help groups in Bihar was negligible. In 2005, when we got a chance to work in Bihar, we decided to increase the number of self-help groups. After this, in 2006, we started expanding self-help groups by taking a loan from the World Bank. We named the women associated with self-help as Jeevika Didi, inspired by this, the central government of that time named it Ajeevika across the country. Jeevika Didis talk to people very well and without hesitation, their economic condition is also improving. I am very happy to see this. We have now started forming self-help groups in urban areas as well. So far, 28 thousand self-help groups have been formed in urban areas, with which more than 3 lakh Jeevika Didis are associated. Wherever we go, we definitely meet Jeevika Didis and listen to them. Whatever needs are fulfilled at the government level.
