Bomb Threat in Guwahati: Shopping Mall Evacuated by Authorities citing ‘technical issues’

A shopping mall in Guwahati, Assam was evacuated and closed by its authorities on Monday afternoon, citing “technical issues”.

Security forces arrived at the mall, prompting speculation that there were explosives inside, although no official confirmation has been received.

The authorities of City Centre, a shopping mall on GS Road in Guwahati, issued an unsigned notice at the gate at around 4 pm on Monday saying: "The mall will be closed for two hours due to technical problems.”

The mall is located about three kilometers from the state capital complex and has many shops, eateries, gaming zones and cinemas.

The incident comes four days after the militant group ULFA (I) announced that it would plant 24 bombs in various parts of the state including several places in Guwahati on Independence Day. Ten “bomb-like objects” including four have already been recovered in Guwahati in the past two days, police sources said.
