BJP Announces 12-Hour Bengal Bandh, Mamata Banerjee Government Refuses to Allow It
On Tuesday, different student organisations of West Bengal marched to the state secretariat against the rape and murder of a female doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. However, during this time, the police used sticks, tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protesters. Now against this action, the BJP has announced a Bengal bandh for 12 hours on Wednesday. However, the Mamata Banerjee government has refused to allow this bandh.
The West Bengal government has urged the common people not to participate in the BJP bandh. Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Alapan Bandopadhyay, said on Tuesday that the government will not allow any bandh on Wednesday. We appeal to the people not to participate in it. The government will take all steps to ensure that normal life remains unaffected.
The West Bengal government has rejected the BJP's bandh announcement and said that transport services in the state will operate as usual on Wednesday and shops, markets and other business establishments have been asked to remain open. Also, the West Bengal government has notified that no government employee can take leave tomorrow, everyone will have to come to the office tomorrow.
On the other hand, the ADG of West Bengal has also held a press conference regarding the bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The ADG has said that no political party can call a bandh. BJP's call for a bandh is a violation of the HC order.
