Bihar's Special Gram Sabha Focuses on Women Empowerment on International Women's Day

In the special Gram Sabha, women empowerment, gender discrimination and other major issues related to women were discussed, along with this, information about the government's schemes related to women empowerment was provided.

Today, on 08 March 2025, on the occasion of International Women's Day, a special Gram Sabha was organized in the Gram Panchayats of the state. This meeting was focused on the efforts being made towards women empowerment in Bihar, increasing participation of women in local self-governance and issues related to the upliftment and development of women. These included discussions on preventive initiatives taken by the Gram Panchayat towards prevention of harassment and discrimination against any woman, prohibition of alcohol, dowry abolition, complete ban on the practice of child marriage, etc. Along with this, women and adolescents doing exemplary work in social, economic, educational, cultural or other fields were also honored in many Gram Panchayats.

In the special Gram Sabha, information about the welfare schemes being run by the government for women empowerment was provided to the general public and a discussion was organised on the role of women in the implementation and success of various government schemes like Chief Minister Rural Solar Street Light Scheme, Rural Street-Drain Pavement Scheme, Water-Life-Hariyali Scheme, etc. Along with this, a discussion was also organised on the effective role of women in the field of education, health and sanitation.

One Gram Panchayat in all the districts of the state will be developed as Model Women Friendly Gram Panchayat. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India has decided to develop one Gram Panchayat in all the districts as Model Women Friendly Gram Panchayat. Working in this direction, on 05 March 2025, a one-day state level training program was organized by the Panchayati Raj Department, Bihar Patna on the subject of 'Model Women Friendly Gram Panchayat Creation' at the state level in the auditorium hall of the Urban Development and Housing Department, Bihar, Patna, which was inaugurated by Shri Kedar Prasad Gupta, Honorable Minister, Panchayati Raj Department, Bihar, Patna by lighting the lamp.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, a special training program was also organized in the selected panchayats to develop them as model women friendly gram panchayats, in which the panchayat representatives were encouraged to create a plan for the upliftment of women standing in the last row of the society by enhancing their capacity. It has been decided by the department to provide an amount of Rs 10,000 to the selected gram panchayats from the National Gram Swaraj Abhiyan fund for organizing special training. In this training program, the public representatives and panchayat secretaries of the selected panchayats also participated as participants.
