Bihar Plans Two New Biological Parks to Boost Wildlife Conservation and Tourism

A review was done regarding the construction of biological park in the office room located in Aranya Bhawan under the chairmanship of Dr. Prem Kumar, Honorable Minister, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bihar. The said meeting was attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Bihar / Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (CAMPA) - cum - Nodal Officer (Forest Conservation), Bihar / Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests-cum-Director, Hariyali Mission, Bihar / Director, Ecology and Environment, Patna / Chief Conservator of Forests, Environment, Climate Change and Wetlands, Bihar / Conservator of Forests, Wildlife Zone, Patna / Director, Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, Patna / Joint Secretary, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bihar.

* Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department Minister Dr. Prem Kumar visited Tamil Nadu. After the visit, he told that the population of Tamil Nadu state is only 08 crores and there are 04 biological parks located there, whereas Bihar has only 02 biological parks namely Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, Patna and Rajgir Zoo Safari. It is necessary to construct 02 biological parks in the state according to the population. In this sequence, he directed the departmental officials to form a committee for the construction of biological parks in the biological parks.

* He also told that the necessary land should be searched for building biological parks. 01 biological park should be in North Bihar and 01 biological park should be in South Bihar.

* The current area of ​​Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, Patna is about 153 acres, in which about 94 species of wildlife and many types of tree species are available.

· Bihar's first zoo safari has been constructed in Rajgir (Nalanda) in an area of ​​191.12 hectares at a total cost of 176.18 crores. Bird Aviary has been constructed at a cost of 4.79 crores, as well as facilities have been expanded at a cost of 2.72 crores. So far, more than 09 lakh tourists have visited the safari.

* More than 5 lakh tourists visit the Nature Safari established in Rajgir in the year 2021 every year.

* Biodiversity parks are being constructed in different areas by the department from the point of view of biodiversity conservation. Biodiversity parks have been constructed in Gaya, Jamui, Araria. The work of construction of biodiversity parks is going on in Thawe of Gopalganj, Mandar of Banka, Veerpur of Supaul.

* Biodiversity park has been constructed in Aurangabad in the year 2024-25. Development of public facilities and construction of park has been done at Kakolat waterfall in Nawada. 224 parks have been transferred to the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change by the Urban Development Department. The work of developing and operating them is being done.

The Honorable Minister informed that in the coming time, the state will be able to get 02 new biological parks, for this, the officials of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, Bihar have been directed to constitute a committee for preparing the biological park as soon as possible and select the land as per the requirement, so that the people of the state can get the benefit of information and healthy environment regarding wildlife / wild animals and flora.
