Bihar Observes Legal Awareness Program for Prisoners on International Human Rights Day

Under the joint aegis of Bihar Human Rights Commission and Bihar State Legal Services Authority, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day and 16th Foundation Day of Bihar Human Rights Commission, a "Legal Awareness Program towards Human Rights of Prisoners" was organized in all the jails of Bihar State on 10.12.2024. For this, instructions were given to all the jails of the state by the Inspector General, Prisons and Correctional Services, Home Department (Prisons), Bihar, Patna.

The program was conducted simultaneously in all the jails of the state from 12:30 pm to 03:00 pm. In the program, apart from the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority and other officials, the panel advocates of the District Legal Services Authority provided information to the prisoners about their human rights and other rights.

Through this event, 47,763 male prisoners and 1,895 female prisoners of the whole of Bihar were given legal information directly. Thus, a total of about 50,000 prisoners of Bihar were made aware of their rights through this legal awareness in one day. Information about duties and rights was given.

On this occasion, special food like Puri, Halwa, Chola, Sabzi etc. was also arranged for the prisoners in all the jails of the state. Under the guidance of Inspector General, Prisons and Correctional Services, Home Department (Prisons), Government of Bihar, the entire event was organised in all the jails of the state with the cooperation of Jail Superintendents.

Vinod Chandran, Hon'ble Justice Shri Ashutosh Kumar, Co-Chairman, Bihar State Legal Services Authority and Hon'ble Justice Shri Ananta Manohar Badar, Chairman, Bihar Human Rights Commission and with the cooperation and contribution of Shri Pranav Kumar, Inspector General, Prisons and Correctional Services, and Ms. Shilpi Soniraj, Member Secretary, Bihar State Legal Services Authority, Smt. Gayatri Kumari, Joint Secretary, Bihar State Legal Services Authority, Smt. Anupama Kumari, Registrar, Bihar State Legal Services Authority, Shri Rajesh Kumar, Secretary, Bihar Human Rights Commission, Shri Shailendra Kumar Singh, Registrar, Bihar Human Rights Commission, Shri Mahesh Kumar Das V. Joint Secretary, Bihar Human Rights Commission, Shri Avinash Kumar Jha, Under Secretary, Bihar Human Rights Commission, Shri Anil Kumar Pandey (Research Officer), Bihar Human Rights Commission, Shri Jitendra Kumar, Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Region), Shri Rajiv Kumar, Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Region) and Shri Rajiv Kumar Singh, Assistant Inspector General of Prisons All the programs were organized successfully under the able leadership of (Mu.).
