Bihar Govt Reviews Progress on School Enrollment, Hostel Construction & Welfare Initiatives

A review meeting of pending works at the departmental level was held today under the chairmanship of Secretary, Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Department, Bihar, Patna, Shri Manoj Kumar. In the meeting, the Secretary mainly reviewed the preparations for ongoing enrollment in schools, transfer of newly constructed schools, status of newly constructed hostels, operation of boys residential schools in all divisions, construction of girls hostels at divisional level, construction of working women hostels at divisional level, training of principals of schools, budget etc.

The Secretary reviewed the preparations related to ongoing enrollment in Other Backward Classes Girls Residential +2 High School from the concerned officials. He directed that the transfer of schools whose construction work has been completed should be ensured by March. By the end of March, he directed to transfer the schools operating elsewhere to new buildings. He also asked to ensure that there is adequate availability of teachers in the schools, so that teaching work can be done smoothly from class 6 to 10th. During the review, he also emphasized on the training of principals of schools. He said that correspondence should be done with BIPARD for designing the curriculum module without delay.

To facilitate the admission process in Backward Class Girls Residential +2 High Schools, the Secretary directed the concerned officials that they can give relaxation in documents to the applicants during application and these documents can be asked for later during admission.

For the construction of Boys Residential Schools at the divisional level in the first phase, the Secretary asked the concerned officials to correspond with the concerned districts to provide 5 acres of land. Similarly, for the construction of Girls Hostel at the divisional level in the first phase, the Secretary asked the concerned districts to provide one acre of land and for the construction of 9 Working Women Hostels (single and double occupancy) with a capacity of 200 seats at the divisional level, the Secretary asked the concerned districts to contact for providing two acres of land. The Secretary also reviewed the status of the tender process regarding providing laptops to the newly appointed welfare officers and setting up computer labs in schools.

Additional Secretary, Deputy Secretary and other officers of the department were also present in the review meeting called at the Secretary's Office Vesham.
