Bihar Government Aims to Transform State into Textile and Leather Hub through Strategic Collaborations
The Government of Bihar is making decisive strides to position the state as a crucial player in India's textile and leather industries. To strengthen its vision, the Department of Industries recently conducted a series of strategic visits to Tamil Nadu, India’s industrial powerhouse, with a focus on gaining actionable insights and forging collaborations. A delegation from the department visited Tiruppur, a global textile manufacturing centre, to engage with leading manufacturers and industry experts. Through interactions with key stakeholders, the team gathered valuable insights into advanced technologies, efficient processes and best practices that have transformed Tiruppur into a global leader. Sustainability being the key focus of the Government of Bihar, they are committed to establishing sustainable, eco-friendly industrial infrastructure by adopting green technologies and efficient processes. The state aims to curb pollution, promote environmental responsibility and drive industrial growth through innovative, sustainable practices.
Director of Industries, Bihar, Shri Alok Ranjan Ghosh, emphasized the significance of these engagements and said, "Our visit to Tiruppur has equipped us with critical knowledge to replicate successful models in Bihar. By fostering a conducive environment through infrastructure, policy support, and incentives, we aim to transform Bihar into a thriving hub for textiles and generate large-scale employment opportunities."
The delegation also visited Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, to study the operations of the Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant. Officials at the Ranitec Common Effluent Treatment Plant highlighted their ability to treat tannery wastewater and recycle 85% of it for reuse. Such innovative practices hold promise for Bihar’s emerging leather sector. Bihar government's Industries Team & officials of @BSPCBOfficial met with Mr. Selvam, Executive Director, Council of Leather Exports (CLE), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), to discuss opportunities in the Bihar's leather sector.
As part of its ongoing initiatives, the department also visited R.K. Industries, a 50-year-old garment manufacturing company serving premium global brands. Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) recently allocated 72,000 sq. ft. of Plug and Play sheds to the company at Sikandarpur Industrial Area in Bihta, Patna, as a testament to Bihar’s investor-friendly approach.
The Government of Bihar is committed to accelerating industrial growth, providing an enabling ecosystem and attracting top-tier manufacturers to the state. This multi-pronged strategy, powered by knowledge-sharing and innovative practices, is expected to place Bihar firmly on the national and global industrial map.
