Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Addresses 78th Independence Day Celebrations at Gandhi Maidan, Patna
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hoisted the flag at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day and addressed the people of the state. On this occasion, the Chief Minister wished the people of Bihar and paid tribute to the freedom fighters of the country.
The Chief Minister said in his address, "Today is a proud day for all of us. Our country got independence on 15 August 1947 and we dedicate this day to those brave fighters who sacrificed their lives to give us freedom." He also praised the soldiers of the Indian Army who are making the supreme sacrifice in protecting the borders of the country.
Referring to the achievements of his tenure, the Chief Minister said that the rule of law has been established in the state since 2005. He informed that his government has made continuous efforts to increase the number of police forces in the state. In 2023, the number of police forces in the state was increased to 2 lakh 27 thousand posts and till now 1 lakh 10 thousand posts have been appointed. He also informed that necessary resources have also been arranged for the police so that there is no difficulty in maintaining law and order.
Highlighting the reforms made in the field of education, the Chief Minister said that special attention has been given to the field of education and health since 2005. 2 lakh 20 thousand government teachers have been appointed in the state and the process of restoration of teachers is also going on fast. He also informed that teachers are being provided opportunities through competency examinations to become government teachers.
Referring to the improvement in health services, the Chief Minister said that now 11 government medical colleges and hospitals are functioning in the state, and 15 new medical colleges are under construction. He also informed that Patna Medical College is being made a world-class medical college with a capacity of 5,462 beds.
The Chief Minister also focused on the development of infrastructure in Bihar. He informed that the target of reaching the capital Patna from the remote areas of the state in 6 hours was achieved in 2016 and now roads and bridges are being constructed to make it 5 hours. Many elevated roads and flyovers are also being built in Patna.
Discussing the steps taken towards women's empowerment, the Chief Minister informed that initiatives like 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions and municipal bodies, 35% reservation in police, and 35% reservation in government jobs have been taken. As a result, the participation of women in Bihar has increased significantly.
The Chief Minister also emphasized on employment generation and placement in government jobs for the youth. He informed that continuous efforts are being made to provide 10 lakh jobs and 10 lakh employment opportunities under 7 Nishchay-2.
On this important occasion of Independence Day, the Chief Minister assured the people of Bihar that the government is committed to the all-round development of the state and is making every effort to include Bihar among the leading states of the country.
