Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Mourns Demise of Legendary Folk Singer Sharda Sinha

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep condolences on the passing of renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, fondly known as Bihar Kokila.


Sharda Sinha, 72, passed away at AIIMS-Delhi due to refractory shock related to septicemia. The veteran singer was battling multiple myeloma, a form of cancer affecting the bone marrow, since 2017.


"Sharda Sinha was a legendary folk singer who mesmerized audiences with her soulful voice," Nitish Kumar said. "Her demise leaves a void in the music industry that can never be filled."


Sharda Sinha was celebrated for her contributions to Bhojpuri and Maithili folk music, with her songs becoming synonymous with Chhath Puja celebrations. Her musical journey began in her childhood, singing Chhath songs with her grandmother.


Some of her notable works include the popular song "Kahe Toh Se Sajna" in the Bollywood film "Maine Pyar Kiya" (1989) and contributions to other films like "Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2" and "Chaarfutiya Chhokare".


Sharda Sinha was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Bhushan in 2018 for her invaluable contributions to the music industry.
