Actress Turn-politician Kangana Ranaut Sparks Controversy with Remarks on Farmers' Movement

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has started a new political chapter by making a controversial statement on the farmers' movement. She said that women were raped in Punjab during the farmers' movement. Murders took place and attempts were made to incite violence. After the controversy over Kangana's statement deepened, the BJP disagreed with what the actress said and distanced itself from her.

Kangana had said in her statement that violence was being instigated in the name of the farmers' movement in Punjab and rapes and murders were taking place there. A press release issued by the BJP's central media department said that the party has advised Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut to refrain from making such statements in future.

Kangana had said in an interview to a newspaper that the three controversial agricultural bills were withdrawn, otherwise 'these miscreants' had a very long plan and they could do anything in the country. The BJP clarified that the statement given by Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers' movement is not the official view of the party. The party said that Kangana is neither allowed nor authorized to speak on the policy issues of the party.

The party has directed Kangana to refrain from making such statements in the future. The BJP stressed that it is committed to following the principles of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas' and social harmony. Kangana had also said in the interview that if the top leadership of the BJP was not strong, Punjab would also have been turned into Bangladesh during the farmers' movement.
